The Ogun State Police Command has concluded plans to prosecute a female TikTok user, identified as Mirabel, after she allegedly admitted that her claim about being raped by a stranger was false.
In a viral phone conversation with social media personality, VeryDarkMan, a voice said to be Mirabel's
is heard admitting to making a false allegation.“I have been taking drugs, and I was not thinking clearly when I posted the videos,” the voice claimed in the voice note.
A police source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Punch that a Divisional Police Officer and other senior officers were at the hospital where Mirabel was receiving treatment.
The source added that she would be charged in court.
“The DPO and some senior police officers are currently at the hospital where she is admitted. Once she is discharged, she will be taken into custody, and a charge will be prepared against her for trial. The essence is to serve as a deterrent to others,” the source said.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, told journalists that Mirable has been admitted to a State-owned health facility, and is currently receiving comprehensive medical attention.
Adeleye said the Ogun state government had visited Mirabel and had initiated a coordinated, multi-sectoral response to the allegation of s£xual assault.
According to the Commissioner, Mirabel has been responding positively to treatment.
She explained that the hospital visit was aimed at assessing the victim’s condition and ensuring that appropriate medical and welfare interventions were being promptly administered.
However, she warned that whoever is found wanting in the case would be prosecuted.
“However, while we stand firmly with survivors, we are equally guided by due process. Investigations must be evidence-based, transparent and fair to all parties involved. Whoever is found wanting will face the full wrath of the law,” Adeleye added.
